Internship & Work Authorization
Understanding your work rights as an F-1 student is critical. Here's what you need to know.
Curricular Practical Training (CPT)
CPT allows you to gain paid work experience that is integral to your academic programme. Available after one full academic year, CPT can be part-time (up to 20 hours/week) or full-time during breaks. Our advisors guide you through the CPT authorisation process with your DSO.
Optional Practical Training (OPT)
OPT provides up to 12 months of work authorisation after graduation in any field related to your major. STEM graduates can apply for a 24-month STEM OPT extension, giving them a total of 36 months to gain US work experience — a critical stepping stone toward a work visa or permanent residency.
